Why A Season Pass for 2010?

Amun Ra Theatre 2010 Season Pass

yeah, i went ahead and did it, folks. and i'll tell you why. because ART should be accessible, affordable, AND excellent.

and i'm also doing it to disprove the myth that my people(s) don't buy tickets in advance for anything. :-)

i've been blessed to be a part of an amazing movement in Nashville, TN. a movement that has been going on now in its present manifestation for almost 2 decades. i was young when i started in the theater game, watching such artists as W. Dury Cox, David Bryant, Helen "Olakete" Shute-Pettaway, Jackie Welch, Barry Scott, Washington Dobbins, and Stella Reed work their magic through companies like Black Tie Theatre, Black Tafetta and Burlap, and the American Negro Playwright Theatre. the line of professional black theatre is strong in Nashville, and the visionaries who gathered people together under a unified mission laid a strong foundation for the present, and yes, the future.

when Amun Ra Theatre, the organization i helped found and now work for, began to coalesce around a group of artists who felt the need to pick up the mantle and advance it forward, we did it like many of those before us: we hammered out a mission that was larger than our individual personalities; we tapped each others talent areas to pull of high-quality, challenging work; we assembled a Board of Directors and put all the legalese in place to ensure that we weren't just founding a production company or personal business. we truly worked for a collective whose mission was--and is--to expose the hidden light through telling great stories born from a great people.

we're moving that forward now.

and i need you to help us.

i'm not a sucker, a jive-talker, or a bullshitter. (i can say that, because it's my blog. lol). i understand that your money and time is valuable and important. and when you pull out your debit or credit card, you think twice in this economy. believe me, i do too. you never get something for nothing, and you want to make sure you're getting the most bang for your buck. so when i sat down with our staff to plan out our initiatives for 2010, i remembered what it was like when i was broke (that comes and goes still, of course) and working to make a life in art; i thought about how tight CNN makes us believe the economy is. i then listened to everyone as the grand idea came to give people a unique opportunity to be unique in their continued support of ART:

give them a big pass, for a small price.

so, the 2010 SEASON PASS was born, and i'm glad it's here. well, at least, you can get one through Friday, Feb. 12th. after that, you'll have to get tickets on a per show basis. we still love that, but we are trying to make a statement. we are seeking ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY of you, wherever you may be, to be the foundation for a cultural movement that continues to make history in Nashville. if you don't believe me, just do a google search on Amun Ra Theatre, or visit our website (www.theamunratheatre.org) and see what all comes up. you made all that happen, and you'll be the reason we reach this goal.

i believe.

don't worry, we're going to give you some things. in addition to the physical pass, you'll get drinks, a hot ART logo mug, preferred seating, restaurant discounts and the like. but more than that, we're going to give you an excellent year of the most exciting theatre you'll see anywhere. that's priceless.

so hop on www.brownpapertickets.com now, and get yourself a ticket for the ride of your life. we'll keep you up on everything. and we'll keep pushing this theater thing to even higher heights. why?

because it's not only Theatre. It's ART.
