...as good as we let it be.
i am thoroughly convinced that the world is what we make it out to be. i've run into a lot of people who have made a valiant attempt to drag me into the muck of self-pity by infecting my ears with all of the "i'm tireds."
"i'm tired of this job..."
"i'm tired of this car..."
"i'm tired of the way that man talks to me..."
"i'm tired of the way that woman talks to me..."
"i'm tired of letting people do this or that..."
"i'm tired of __________!"
just fill in the blank ad nauseum, and you'll get the point. i almost joined in the foray with the "i'm tired of the crackheads who watched my car long enough to smash my window and jack my cd player," but i figured, what the heck...what can you do? (that did kinda get my goat, though. that's the dangerous thing about thievery: there's thought put into how and when to steal something, but no thought put into how unnecessary certain actions are. like...why smash the GOOD window and leave the one with the cracked, i-need-to-get-it-replaced tint alone??? nope, gotta hit the good one. that's the way of the world, huh?
so i decided to pause for the cause and blog a little tonite. some topics:
HOMECOMING AT TSU!
yes. i live for this time of year, when i am in town in Nashville, that is. this is the time when 20-30 thousand black folk (and friends of black folk) get together and kick it on the North side of town. food, music, bands, a parade, and people that are getting harder and harder to recognize from school--but hey, i'm trying. they say the mind is the second thing to go. i can't recall what the first thing is...
but i get to hang out and pretend to be incognito. i have to try and come up with my standard answer to: "So what have you been up to since i ran into you last year on this very same corner of the wall on the parade route?"
hmmm... "here's my site. read the blog?"
nah... "here's my site. look for updates?"
uh... "trying to make a dollar outta 15 cents?"
yeah. that's it. no. that's an old one. it usually illicits the complimentary laugh, followed by, "So...really...what have you been up to since i ran into you last year on this very same corner of the wall on the parade route?"
whatever i come up with, i'm prepping to deliver it at least 40 or 50 times by the time the final buzzer sounds at the football game.
but what the hey, that's how it is, right? :-)
CHRISTMAS SHO' 'NUFF:
it's on me now: "Sho' 'Nuff Nativity," that Christmas musical play i've been talking about for months. finally got it written, cast, and scheduled for production. look for the site to come up soon. i'll make a blog entry just for that, but needless to say, this year is shaping up to be AWESOME. it's not your average Nativity play. it's got jazz, blues, gospel, spoken word...u name it. well, name all the positive stuff and you've got a family blockbuster. the chorus started rehearsals last week, and from around the corner in my office, they sound like they are ready to tear the roof off the Poag Auditorium at Tennessee State University Nov. 30-Dec. 3. immediately after that show goes down, we've got back to back season offerings to kick off '07 that i'll be rapping about very soon. i'm stoked.
FADING...
alright, i just finished a cup of coffee to help me sort the rest of these clothes, sweep, mop, clean, and move boxes around. and guess what? i'm sleepy. wow. i feel like the old folk, who used to not be able to go to sleep without "they mid'night coffee." i used to say, "yeah, right...coffee at MIDNIGHT?" i'm starting to feel their comfortable connection now. scary. probably need to staff of the caffeine for a while...
soon. take care. talk.
:-)
