what a journey it's been for The Second Chance movie. from independent filming to distribution dealing, to theatrical release, to now...(Gasp)...the DVD release! July 18th, in some outlet near you.
i'm doing some radio appearances and some TV stuff locally. gotten some calls from some people around the country. it ought to be cool to see the movie get out there now to a wider audience. it's a great film for discussion, and i look forward to discussing it around the country in the coming months, visiting schools and organizations, churches, etc.
we've got a big, final screening coming up at the Belcourt Theatre in Nashville on Monday, July 17th, at 7 p.m. (www.belcourt.org). i'm looking forward to seeing and meeting some fresh faces there, as well as re-uniting with some fellow cast members.
i went to a really nice retreat last weekend, and it was SO needed. i've been working non-stop for months, but had hit a bit of a rut mentally. i got up on last Saturday and decided to jump onto the Natchez Trace (an old scenic route that runs from Nashville to Natchez, Mississippi) and drive for a while. i ended up in Southwest, TN at a Bed and Breakfast with a quaint little cabin that had a front porch swing and a fireplace and oil lamp, rocking chair, etc. there was a long, grassy road, a pond, a big beautiful barn, and hummingbirds. yeah, hummingbirds. can you believe i'd never been that close to those. they came right up on the porch to the feeder. and they are fascinating to watch. they sparked many meditative thoughts.
there were blueberries growing all over the place, too. i mean sho-nuff, ripe, eat off the bush blueberries. had some for breakfast the next day with some fresh cantaloupe. that country retreat worked wonders. i wrote multiple pages in my personal journal, outlined an entire scenario for an indy film i want to shoot next year, and read a novel in one night (Walter Mosley's "The Man In My Basement"). fascinating read, cats. good piece. i love Mosley's writing and he's done it again.
so i'm eating this mango last night, and i'm like..."MAN, i haven't had a mango this good since i was in Egypt 9 years ago!" now i'm eating another one, and it's just as good! i'm tripping, because i'm having to take a break from typing to attack this bad boy. as you can see, i'm rolling with the stream-of-consciousness blog tonight....
i'm just a week away from our summer Performing Arts Academy being over and i'm experiencing sweet depression. our kids are fabulous. we've got a dozen of the best young people i know, who started out as individual strangers and have now come together as a cohesive unit. i'm gonna miss them deeply. funny how kids can grow on you, huh? my daughter's in the program and she's really coming into her own as a mini-artist. she's much better than i was at that age. what i like about the program is we aim to give the kids the opportunity to shine that they might not get even in their school environments. that way, they can have the confidence to walk amongst their peers with their heads held high, not in prideful arrogance, but in confidence.
yeah, i'll miss those lil' ones. but we're going to develop something ongoing for them, so that we can get them active throughout the year.
i just wanted to dive in for a minute. not going to get too heavy. wish all well and God Bless.
