To live and live in L.A.

I am currently in the city of Angels, rocketing toward a BET reception and meet and greet. yeah, my thumbs are poppin' cuz i'm typing on my treo. consequently, I won't take long on this entry. just wanted to let ya'll know i'm alive and scooting around the country promoting The Second Chance.

shoutouts to: Paul Crouch, Jr, Clifton Davis, and the TBN Gang for a real neat segment that aired yesterday worldwide. it was a lot of fun and my first time kickin' it with 30 million viewers. also to all the L.A. media, who didn't chew up a country boy and spit him out. :-)
i'd love to hear some feedback from the wonderful peeps I met. click on the messageboard link to the left and stay in touch.

i'm out for now. thanks for checkin' in. my thumbs hurt.

Hello Mr.Carr thank you for stopping by the reception friday 1/27. It was a pleasure to meet you in person and looking to many future interviews. I believe after Second Chance you're going to be seen quite frequently on the BIG SCREEN. May your 2006 be greater than your most blessed day in 2005.

Hello,
It was wonderful attending the luncheon and reception in Minnesota and getting to put a "real" person to the "make believe" person on the screen. It was also nice to hear your personal philosophy as to when and how true reconciliation occurs. I hope you would consider coming to Minnesota again to "meet and greet"some of the young people of color that definitely need to see a "real" (not phoney) person in your industry that is living for God despite all that is out there.

May God continue to bless the Second Chance and all your future endeavours.

Agape,

Colette Medas-Forbes

Hello Mr. Carr,

Are you or your parent(s) Nigerian?

hey all..
my parents are both citizens of the United States, from the grand old states of Alabama and Tennessee. i was given the name "obafemi" from a wise old teacher i studied under over a decade ago. the word is indeed Nigerian (Yoruba specifically), and it means: "The King loves me." thanks for the question.

i had a BALL in L.A., kickin' it with Precious Times. the world needs to look out for Dr. Susie Jones! you have a powerful spirit and ministry, and i can't thank you enough for taking the time out to talk to a little fella from South Nashville.

the Minnesota stop on the Second Chance tour was great. i enjoyed interacting with so many people with different ministries. i tell you, it's always good to rap with people who are solid in their faith, without being overzealous or pushy. i would be glad to come back to Minneapolis/St. Paul. that was the first time i've seen a frozen lake and i heard that it was the WARMEST January in 150 years!! i'd weather the cold just to see a semi-truck driving across a lake.

thanks to all for stopping in and saying hi, and more importantly, for dialoging.

jeff...Mom (Aunt Elsie) told me about The Second Chance movie, but in typical Carr fashion, she was very humble about everything. So I checked out the website and 'Wow', I had no idea! Congrats to you my cuz; I can't wait to see the movie.

Soon to be...
my filmography to this point has been a 1995 role as Denzil Dowell in the Mario Van Peebles film, "Panther." i was up for a lead in it, but i was given a smaller role. it's a pivotal role (in that it takes the movie in a different direction), but if you went to the bathroom... you MISSED ME!!! (laugh)

so this is my maiden voyage in a starring role in the medium of film, so keep me in your thoughts, prayers, and good will, and i'll do the same.

CUZ!!!
it's GREAT to hear from you! yeah, you know the Carr's will never let you know the real deal--we get that from Happyjack! i think i'll write a separate blog entry just about him. thanks for the kind words, and i look forward to seeing you at the next family gathering and catching up with the cat with the same date of birth--GO Leos!!

peace and love

Hello Mr. Carr,

Thanks for answering my question. My father is Yoruba so I knew that your name was from Nigeria. So I was just wondering if you were Nigerian. My daughter and I had a great big discussion as to whether or not you were. She pointed out all your "Nigerian" features and of course I told her that you most likely adopted the name. However, now she is not willing to buy me lunch for being correct :) She is claiming that you still looks like a Nigerian and so I suppose you are Nigerian somewhere, way back :)

Congradulations on the movie anyways, Nigerian or not (LOL). God is and will direct your steps if you allow Him to.

Hello,

I am gald to hear that yo would love to come back to Minnesota someday. I hope you will consider coming soon. I know my church would love to have you come and speak to the young people/adults. We however, do not have much funds to support such a venture, so we might have to visit with you when someone else sponsors your visit. Or if you would really like to come Minnesota again, and the finances are not of issue, I would love to make that happen, whenever you have the time to do so.

I have lived in Minnesota 23+ years and have never seen a semi-truck drive out on the lake. I have seen some very large pick-up trucks with crazy folks in them on the lakes. I have even seen some large fishing houses on the lakes with many interesting people sitting in them attempting to catch lunch (even though the grocery store have much fresh fish for just a little money) but I have never seen a semi on the lake. However people in Minnesota loves the great outdoors and cold weather or snow does not stop them from enjoying it.

Hope you are having a great time promoting the movie. I plan to go on openning night/weekend with a group of friends to see it.

Agape,

Colette

because African-Americans have been over here so long, there is no telling where my peeps really came from--maybe Nigeria! i'm sure i'm from the west coast somewhere. :-)

i only wanted to see the semi drive on the lake because one of the young ladies i met at a reception there told me she saw one pass her on a lake, carrying a mobile home behind it one winter--i thought that'd be cool, but maybe she was embellishing...i still would like to see all the people fishing and driving. people in nashville don't even drive on street ice, and water just doesn't freeze around these parts.

thanks for staying in touch

Hello there, Mr. Carr...

One of our hero's birthdays just passed... Happy Belated Birthday to JAMES LANGSTON HUGHES!

February 1, 1902 - May 22, 1967
"We build our temples for tomorrow, as strong as we know how and we stand on the top of the mountain, free within ourselves."

I was excited to see your name scroll on the list of names at the Stellar Awards &, then, present an award. You was sharp... I see you Nat Obafemi Cole.:) I was reminded of when you spoke about hearing, as if the ancestors voices telling you to tell their stories upon the birth of Amun Ra Theatre. I felt as though, I was among those voices watching something in time. Really it was like watching the Titans win & you were like Steve McNair, especially since I can identify with the detail of the game. You know what I'm sayin'...it all matters in an undeniable way... Congratulations & blessings to you as you go forward.

Something I came to after looking over some of Langston Hughes' material: 'The race is given to everyone & everyone can run, but it isn't until you know why you're running, that you find purpose in focusing, get tougher from growing tired, & discover joy within each new obstacle... as you run in love & victory runs after you.'
